SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Becky: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are:
Jay: yosi
Jay: chibog
Jay: resbak
Jay: petiks
Becky: Jay, what's our first expression?
Jay: yosi
Becky: This word is verlan of the abbreviation of the word
Jay: sigarilyo [cigarrillo]
Becky: meaning "cigarette" in Spanish. The first and last syllables are reversed in order, while the other syllables are truncated. When it's used as a slang expression, it means "cigarette."
Jay: [SLOW] yosi [NORMAL] yosi
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: yosi
[pause - 5 sec.]
Becky: Use this slang expression when you refer to a cigarette.
Jay: Females normally use the word sigarilyo instead of yosi.
Becky : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Bili ka nga ng yosi sa tindahan. Tapos bili ka na rin ng anong gusto mo. Libre ko. [SLOW] Bili ka nga ng yosi sa tindahan. Tapos bili ka na rin ng anong gusto mo. Libre ko.
Becky: "Please go and buy cigarettes at the store. And then buy anything that you want. My treat."
Jay: [NORMAL] Bili ka nga ng yosi sa tindahan. Tapos bili ka na rin ng anong gusto mo. Libre ko.
Becky: Okay, what's the next expression?
Jay: chibog
Becky: When it's used as a slang expression, it means "to eat."
Jay: [SLOW] chibog [NORMAL] chibog
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: chibog
[pause - 5 sec.]
Becky: Use this slang expression when you want to say eat. This word is a combination of two syllables.
Jay: The first one is chi
Becky: which means "to eat" in Chinese.
Jay: And then "bog" from busog
Becky: which means "I'm full." Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] chumibog ako ng husto sa party! [SLOW] chumibog ako ng husto sa party!
Becky: "I ate a lot at the party!"
Jay: [NORMAL] chumibog ako ng husto sa party!
Becky: Okay, what's our next expression?
Jay: resbak
Becky: This word is verlan for
Jay: bakres
Becky: meaning "back up." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "to get revenge by getting back up."
