Jay: And I'm Jay!
Becky: This is Must-Know Filipino Slang Words and Phrases, Season 1, Lesson 12. In this lesson you'll learn expressions indicating sarcastic admiration.
Becky: These expressions are meant to compliment someone, in a humorous, sarcastic way.
SLANG EXPRESSIONS
Becky: The expressions you'll be learning in this lesson are:
Jay: edi wow
Jay: ikaw na
Jay: push mo yan
Jay: may ganon
Becky: Jay, what's our first expression?
Jay: edi wow
Becky: When it's used as a slang expression, it means "wow."
Jay: [SLOW] edi wow [NORMAL] edi wow
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: edi wow

Becky: Use this slang expression when you respond to an elaborate statement which you don't really care about. This is usually used when someone is bragging about his or her accomplishments. Although sarcastic, it is humorous and usually not offensive. Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Edi wow! Ikaw pala ang pinakamataas sa exam. Libre naman dyan! [SLOW] Edi wow! Ikaw pala ang pinakamataas sa exam. Libre naman dyan!
Becky: "Wow! You were the highest in the exam. Treat us!"
Jay: [NORMAL] Edi wow! Ikaw pala ang pinakamataas sa exam. Libre naman dyan!
Becky: Okay, what's the next expression?
Jay: ikaw na
Becky: literally meaning "you already." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "it's you."
Jay: [SLOW] ikaw na [NORMAL] ikaw na
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.

Becky: Use this slang expression when you respond to an elaborate statement which you don't really care about. This is a very similar expression to
Jay: edi wow.
Becky: This word focuses on the statement being made by the person, while
Jay: ikaw na
Becky: focuses on the person boasting about the statement. Nowadays, this is taken as a compliment rather than an offense, since it’s always used in humorous conversations. It’s also common to use the two expressions together.
Jay: as in, edi wow, ikaw na!
Becky : Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Person A: Ang saya-saya, na promote ako sa trabaho! Person B: Ikaw na! Ikaw na ang magaling. Sige na, kami na ang hindi magaling. [SLOW] Person A: Ang saya-saya, na promote ako sa trabaho! Person B: Ikaw na! Ikaw na ang magaling. Sige na, kami na ang hindi magaling.
Becky: "Person A: I'm so happy, I got promoted at work! Person B: Yeah, yeah, you're the one who is excellent! Yeah we get it, we suck."
Jay: [NORMAL] Person A: Ang saya-saya, na promote ako sa trabaho! Person B: Ikaw na! Ikaw na ang magaling. Sige na, kami na ang hindi magaling.
Becky: Okay, what's our next expression?
Jay: push mo yan
Becky: literally meaning "push it." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "go for it."
Jay: [SLOW] push mo yan [NORMAL] push mo yan
Becky: Listeners, please repeat.
Jay: push mo yan

Becky: Use this slang expression when you want to encourage someone or show your support. This expression is flexible. Most of the time, this expression connotes positivity. Be careful when you use this word. The meaning can change depending on the situation or manner it’s said. Now let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] Sige lang, push mo yan! Suportahan ka namin sa pangangampanya mo sa baranggay eleksyon. [SLOW] Sige lang, push mo yan! Suportahan ka namin sa pangangampanya mo sa baranggay eleksyon.
Becky: "Yeah, go for it! We'll support you in your campaign for the local election."
Jay: [NORMAL] Sige lang, push mo yan! Suportahan ka namin sa pangangampanya mo sa baranggay eleksyon.
Becky: Okay, what's the last expression?
Jay: may ganon
Becky: It’s an abbreviation of
Jay: may ganoon
Becky: meaning "there is such a thing." But when it's used as a slang expression, it means "oh really?."
Jay: [SLOW] may ganon [NORMAL] may ganon

Becky: Use this slang expression when you reply to a statement with doubt or disbelief in a sarcastic way. This is best compared to the English expression, "oh, really now?" Let's hear an example sentence.
Jay: [NORMAL] May ganon? Sabi niya ayaw niya ng makipagusap sa akin? Ano kaya ang pinagkakaartehan niya? [SLOW] May ganon? Sabi niya ayaw niya ng makipagusap sa akin? Ano kaya ang pinagkakaartehan niya?
Becky: "Oh, really now? She said she no longer wants to talk with me? What is it that she's so dramatic about?"
Jay: [NORMAL] May ganon? Sabi niya ayaw niya ng makipagusap sa akin? Ano kaya ang pinagkakaartehan niya?
