John: Welcome to 3-Minute Filipino Season 1, Lesson 4 - Asking How Someone Is. In this lesson, you'll learn how to ask and answer the question "How are you?" in Filipino.

John: Here's the informal way to ask "How are you?" in Filipino.
Camille: [Normal] Kumusta ka?
John: First is a word meaning "hello."
Camille: [Normal] kumusta [Slow] kumusta
John: Last is the word meaning "you."
Camille: [Normal] ka [Slow] ka
John: Note the rising intonation. Listen again to the informal question meaning "How are you?"
Camille: [Slow] Kumusta ka? [Normal] Kumusta ka?
John: Now, imagine you're speaking to someone you don’t know well. Here's the formal way to ask, "How are you?"
Camille: [Normal] Kumusta po kayo?
John: First is a word meaning "hello."
Camille: [Normal] kumusta [Slow] kumusta
John: Next is a word indicating politeness.
Camille: [Normal] po [Slow] po
John: Last is the word meaning "you (plural)."
Camille: [Normal] kayo [Slow] kayo
John: Note again the rising intonation. Listen again to the formal question meaning "How are you?"
